Terry Pea and wife in the ruins of Dunfirmline Palace during the Homecoming Tour of 2009. Terry is one of our founding members. Malcolm Canmore built Dunfirmline Palace for his Queen Margaret in the 11th century. It was a favourite residence of many Scottish monarchs. It was used as a royal residence until mid 1600s. All that remains of the palace today is the kitchen, its cellars, and the impressive south wall. 

On September 9, 2013 Robin and Georgina Craufurd, accompanied by Alex Craufurd of Craufurdland and his wife Christine, represented the clan at a commemorative event for the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden. Flodden saw the demise of thousands of Scots. It decimated "the flower of Scotland"; most every major Scottish family lost members, including Crawfords. On September 9, 1513, several Crawfords lost their lives including Robert Crawford, Laird of Auchenames, William Crawford of Ferme, John Crawford of Hirsell and Robert Crawford, Master of Kilbirny. Crawfords all lined up for the Grand March down the hill from Stirling Castle to the parade grounds at the base of the town. It was held on the Friday before the Saturday and Sunday Bannockburn anniversary event, which was held on the grounds of The Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre.

Lady Georgina Craufurd, wife of Sir Robert (Robin) spearheaded the effort to restore an old Craufurdland family banner and encase it in a table-top perspex case to honor the memory of Peter Houison Craufurd, previous laird of Craufurdland. It is presented above in its new casing. Over time the stitching around the edge has shrunk. The banner bears the arms of Craufurdland. The CCA endorsed this effort, whose cost was generously covered by the Craufurds, by contributions from members of the 2014 Crawford Tour, the CCA membership, and the Association. This is the memorial the CCA ultimately chose to honor Peter Houison Craufurd who died on 17th September 2012. Craufurdland had Robin and Georgina as guests at a dinner at the Castle on 21st November 2015 to thank them and all who had contributed towards the restoration.

Photos from Bruce Crawfords's article in the October 2017 CCA Newsletter of his visit to Edinburgh Castle. Bruce was very impressed to find the Crawfordjohn arms ("gules a fess ermine"), our basic Crawford coat of arms, in the tower of Edinburgh Castle next to the sculptural composition representing the coronation of Robert The Bruce (central figure in the picture on the left). Others of us have experienced the thrill of coming upon our arms there. You can see the Crawford coat of arms peeking out to the right side of the coronation composition. The six coat of arms featured around the walls of the room surrounding the sculpture are those from the Bannatyne Mazer (also known as the Bute Mazer for its current owner, the Marquis of Bute). It is historically the oldest Scottish mazer or ceremonial drinking cup. It was thought to have been commissioned by the castellan of Rothesay Castle probably in the winter of 1318-1319 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Robert The Bruce's victory at the Battle of Bannockburn (June 1314). These shields are considered to represent close supporters in southern Scotland of The Bruce. The shields surround the figure of a lion, thought to represent King Robert. The Crawfordjohn arms are in the two o'clock position on the mazer (picture on the right). The mazer is on exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland, also located in Edinburgh. Joanne has written an article on the mazer, which is to be found in Vol. 2 of The House of Crawford series. Early versions the article, which contain a more extensive analysis of research on the mazer, can be found in two old issues of the CCA Newsletter (December 2009 & 2010).
